Our journey began with a shared belief—that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of where they live. Friends Of Manyara Ranch School was formed by a dedicated group of individuals passionate about uplifting the school.
A Personal Journey Ignites a Lifeline for Manyara Ranch School
In August 2023, during a safari in Tanzania with our then 13-year-old grandson, we asked our guide to visit a local school. As a retired teacher, I wanted to see firsthand what life was like for children that age. The sight was dismal—run-down buildings and scarce resources—but the children’s happiness and spirit were undeniable.
That moment changed everything. We knew we had to do something.
Back home, we began fundraising. On January 1, 2024, we returned to Manyara Ranch School, committed to helping in every way we could afford. So far, we’ve raised over $35,000, but the scale of need is enormous. After speaking with local officials, it became clear: no one else is helping this school. The government wants to assist but lacks the necessary funds.
Our goal is to raise $2.7 million to make repairs, expand the campus, doubling the numbers of dorms, classrooms and teacher homes, enlarge the kitchen and dining facilities and create playing fields, a computer lab, and library. It’s a huge undertaking—but it’s our dream and mission to uplift these deserving Maasai children and give them a future filled with hope and opportunity.

Shipping equipment and supplies to Tanzania is costly and inefficient, which is why we purchase all necessary items locally. This not only supports the school but also strengthens the local economy.
